ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Belen Paez, ecologist and biologist is an activist and the president of the Pacha Mama Foundation working to support indigenous self-determination in the Amazon. She coordinates the Cuencas Sagradas initiative for bottom-up bioregional planning promoted by the indigenous nations of Ecuador and Peru in the Napo and Marañón river basins.
Manari Ushigua is an indigenous activist, shaman and political leader of the Zapara Nation, an endangered Amazonian people living between Ecuador and Peru. In 2001, UNESCO recognized the “Oral heritage and cultural manifestations of the Zápara people” as a world intangible heritage.
