NEW TERRITORIAL SUSTAINABLE PATHS: PARTICIPATORY MAPPING, EMPOWERMENT AND COOPERATION | GEONIGHT 2023

The International Night of Geography 2023 is an event taking place worldwide on Friday 14 April 2023.
Since its first edition in 2018, the International Night of Geography (GeoNight) aims to highlight geography and geographers and to be able to give the general public the opportunity to become familiar with geographical concepts and studies, making geographical research more accessible to all.

This year the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Climate Change and Diversity: Sustainable Territorial Development together with the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence of the University of Padua are actively contributing to the programme with the aim of contributing to the dissemination and diffusion of geography and GIScience topics through didactic and scientific activities such as conference and seminars. Specifically we are glad to present you the event

New territorial sustainable paths: participatory mapping, empowerment and cooperation

During this seminar we will have the pleasure of listening to the presentation of good practices of participatory mapping related to the inclusion of rural and indigenous knowledge in the conservation and management of the natural resources of a determined territory, impacted by the current climate crisis.
From the Lake Chad Region to Ecuadorian Amazon, through the use of cartography (printed and digital) and GIScience tools (mobile apps for mapping, drones), we will get to know two projects with the main goals to involve local communities (rural and indigenous) and to promote cooperation between different actors to build together a safer and more prosperous sustainable future paths.
