University Joseph KI-ZERBO

The University OUAGA I Professor Joseph KI-ZERBO, referenced in recent years among the top universities in the French-speaking Africa was established in 1974 and is from the second generation universities in Francophone Africa. It has six (06) training and research units, five (05) institutes including an open and distance education center, three (03) polytechnic university centers, three (03) major graduate schools and a UNESCO Chair “Women, Gender, Science, Society and sustainable Development”. Moreover, the good image of the university, it’s also the quality of teacher-researchers recognized internationally. Many masters are opened in the sectors of pure and applied sciences, science of human health and social sciences, humanities, arts and communication. These include the Master in GIS applied to the development, management of the environment and sustainable development of the Department of Geography whose experience has enabled the University Ouaga I to be one of the consortium partners.

 

Geography Department

The department of Geography is the one of the 5 fives departments of the human sciences’ research and training unit of the University Ouaga I Pr Joseph Ki-Zerbo (UO1-JKZ). It representative is called “chief of department”.The department is a large community of under and postgraduate students. Two types of master courses are delivered: research master and the professional one. The professional master is focused on GIS and remote sensing tools. For the postgraduate students many are working on their Phd in the framework of two laboratories and the doctoral school of Letters, human sciences and communication. The research in the department of Geography arrange across the thematic of “environment, change and adaption”, “territorial systems and development”, “food security and health”, “urbanization and services delivering” and “rural development and land reform”.
