Climate change, sustainability, development | Cambio Climático, Sustentabilidad y Desarrollo

The first semester is common to all the 4 academic paths, and it covers 30 ECTS. It starts in September with a Kick-off Seminar, a welcoming week where everything about CCD-STeDe is explained.

It is delivered by the University of Padova, in Italy and lessons are mandatory and face-to-face. All teachings and exams are in English.

The second semester for this path takes place in Quito, Ecuador. It is held by the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar (UASB) both face-to-face (fieldworks) and online (teachings). All lectures and exams are in Spanish.

The third semester is blended: online teachings are provided by UASB and UNIPD, while the international summer school is organized in presence. 

The fourth semester foresees the internship and the preparation of the thesis.

About Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar: 

UASB Ecuador was established by the Andean Parliament in 1992 and is part of the Andean Integration System, with headquarters in Bolivia and Ecuador. Its fundamental purpose is to create a space for research and reflection on Latin America and in particular the Andean Region, its history, culture, scientific and technological development, its integration process and the impact that the Andean Region can have on Latin America, South America and the world.

The institution carries out research, teaching and provision of services for the generation and transmission of scientific and technological knowledge. His academic focus is in the field of postgraduate studies, with a wide range of doctoral, master’s and specialized studies. Currently, the University has the largest offer of postgraduate programs in Ecuador, especially doctorate programs, open to international competition, which requires high academic performance, and involves broad international cooperation and exchange programs for teachers and students from the Sub Andean Region, Latin America and the Americas from the North and Europe.

In particular, UASB has the Environment and Sustainability Area whose academic field is the analysis of global ecological problems, its social and environmental implications, and the alternatives for overcoming global, national and local scales. The central problems under study are climate change and loss of biodiversity. There is also the Socio-Environmental Information Unit dedicated to interdisciplinary, quantitative and qualitative research, at various scales of economic, social and environmental processes to improve understanding of Ecuador’s development problems, specifically environmental processes. UASB also highlights the Regional Observatory of Health, Environment and Society, which is a space for information and scientific analysis, for discussion and action on topics related to health and the environment.
